Trash It! overview
Trash It! is a little application force-empties your Trash. It also supports Drag and Drop. Especially useful if you have files or folders in the Trash stuck in the trash, need to delete locked files/folders, or want to delete large amounts of files/folders very quickly. If you drop files or folders onto the Trash It! icon, it will delete them. If you double-click on it, it will empty your Trash can. This is the software Apple Tech recommends when all else fails (according to users)!
Trash It! should be used when:
- You can't get rid of trash items manually.
- You can't move items to the trash.
- You have a large number of items to delete (e.g., previous system folders).
- You’re ready to pull your hair out because nothing seems to be working! :)
Please note: Older versions of Trash It! are available here. There is a hardware bug with 10.6 running on certain Macs that causes Trash It! to unexpectedly quit on launch. Please use v5.x if you experience this problem.

According to developer's website, looks like he is not able to continue updating Trash-it! because of Apple "security" updates: "These security updates broke Trash It! and so far I’ve been unable to find a workaround. They also made the Trash folder impossible to remove or delete as they changed its permissions". He makes clear that the application is not abandoned and he will keep trying to solve the problem.

I have used Trash It! For years now and it solved a few show stoppers when all other apps or individual efforts were not effective. I could not believe what this incredible small app did, to this day I will continue to follow its path.

I am using Big Sur and this worked a charm. I was trying to rid myself of some kind of dropbox files that lingered after uninstalling dropbox, and recycle bin wouldn't get rid of them. I changed permissions per file, booted terminal to disable system integrity, all sorts of scary **** and couldn't get rid. This app is a life saver, well done devs! It worked for me with Big Sur 11.4 on a 2015 intel macbook pro. I wanted to donate to them for the hassle they just saved me, but signed up to this website instead for the sole purpose of giving this one 5*'s. life saver! Saved me from having to click a good 20x pop ups when emptying recycle bin!

I have a lot of situations when I can't move some items to the trash, It's awful. Now, my MAC will be cleaned and, hope, faster.

Unfortunately, Trash It appears to have been abandoned. It is totally nonfunctional with macOS Big Sur running on the new Apple M1 silicone. It just does nothing.
