SproutConverter for Mac

Poorly written, delusional pricing, deceitful marketing — a halfassed port of old Windows rubbish. Seriously, this is pure junk. Don’t believe a single consonant uttered by this “developer” (a laughable term in this context). Even if you ignore his −4 rating, he’s a bloviating scammer chock full of marketing-speak who has never actually addressed (let alone fixed) anyone’s problems. There are literally dozens of FREE converters/transcoders available that are vastly superior to this lump, including some that actually work. For instance, HandBrake, MPEG Streamclip, Hybrid, Burn, ffmpegX, Adapter, MakeMKV, VisualHub, Media Converter, remux, even VLC is more capable than this POS. Then there are the many $8-$30 FFmpeg front-end apps, like iFFmpeg (my favorite), VidConvert, etc. Anything (including nothing) is better than SproutConverter. Shame on MacUpdate.com for posting such dreck.

This is, by far, the most useless piece of software I have ever paid for. None of the files I tried worked. The program crashed most of the time. flv, mpg, mp4, no file extension worked. Do not buy unless You have tried the demo version and verified the result. I hoped to be able to use the filters to clean up old home videos. I have working software for conversion so I didn´t try that. If someone wonder why I gave "stability" a half star; It´s not possible to save a review with no star at all.

I downloaded a demo the last time this program was offered. I had a problem in that it wouldn't convert a basic format and I wrote a review as a comment. I never received a response to my comment over a 2 week? period. So I never purchased the program for lack of any support. I never heard from anyone.

There was one review full of questions and one very negative review on the promo screen. When I logged in it said there were more reviews. When I clicked to see the reviews there was only one ambiguous review. It would appear that reviews are being hidden. Makes me very uneasy!!! Also, poor design, I clicked on stars to rate but could not click to correct my rating. Once set it was permanent.
