Starry Night overview

Starry Night is a macOS screensaver module that draws a randomly generated night skyline with buildings and stars. Original Windows version written by Evan Green. Original concept screensaver from After Dark, written by Berkeley Systems (however this re-creation was written from scratch and does not utilize any code from Berkeley Systems)

To install: un-compress the zipfile and double-click on the StarryNight.saver file, which will let you install the screensaver for your user account or for any user on your Mac.

To use: Find Starry Night in the screensaver list in System Preferences -> Desktop and Screensaver -> Screensaver. Modify screen saver options to your liking.

What’s new in version 1.0

  • Updated to work for macOS 10.14 and up (codesigned)
  • Added refresh time (screen is cleared and a new iteration starts after
  • Added value labels for some of the settings sliders
  • Increased resolution of preview render to more accurately represent what the actual screensaver will look like when running
  • Some minor fixes

Some notes from the author (me): - The latest version should work with macOS 10.14 and above, but will not work with versions earlier than 10.14 (If you want a version that works with 10.13 and earlier, try https://www.dropbox.com/s/8wrfawnzgtjkjwt/Starry%20Night.saver.zip?dl=0 ) - After downloading, I recommend double-clicking on the StarryNight.saver file and following the instructions from macOS on how to install.
