Dapplegrey gives you the ability to set options DOSBox provides to the user, but w/o having to enter those options by using the Terminal or even have to edit the DOSBox config file manually. The config file which will be send to DOSBox will be written just before Dapplegrey tells DOSBox to start.
What's New
Version 2.36:
When dragging an disk image onto Dapplegrey to get it mounted in DOSBox, often a Window shows up which gives you some options, for example using the -size parameter. Also, you can choose between 'Folder or disk dragged onto Dapplegrey will be mounted only. and 'It will be mounted and its directory will be listed', which tries to list the root directory of that image, when it gets mounted succesfully. So, previously, if you switch from 'Folder or disk dragged onto Dapplegrey will be mounted only" to 'It will be mounted and its directory will be listed', sometimes (if not checked) the checkbox "Size parameters" will be activated in previous versions of Dapplegrey, which is obviously wrong.
Some text recently introduced in Dapplegrey was still displayed in text font 'System'. It's now 'Geneva', like all the other text used in Dapplegrey (except Tabulator Panel line located in the main window, which is still displayed in text font 'System').

One thing that I like about Dapplegrey over Boxer, is that Dapplegrey allows me to easily tune the DOSBox session.
As yet, I've not found an easy way to do that with Boxer.
Boxer is an attractive and easy way of launching the games, but as different games make different requirements demands of the processor, graphic cards and audio hardware Dapplegrey gives me the customisability that I need.
The fantastic thing about Boxer, on the other hand, is that it's already preconfigured to optimal settings for many popular DOS games. No need to mess around with any settings.
It's still very possible to tweak your per-game settings and much easier to do so (than Dapplegrey) with the upcoming 1.0 release.
Dapplegrey certainly has its place but Boxer is really the most user-friendly frontend for DOSBox.
The problem with Boxer is that it hasn't been updated in half a year, is still tied to the old and much less nice Dosbox .72. I like the interface of Boxer better, but Dapplegrey is updated like every other week.
(Not to hijack Dapplegrey's comments section, but...) Boxer is still in active development and as Foofoorabbit observed, recent betas now include DOSBox 0.73 - however, an official release is still some time away, and the betas lack niceties like localisation and rigorous testing. You can follow Boxer beta versions from the blog on the Boxer website.
No other DOSBox front-end holds a candle to Boxer. Boxer is bar none the best. And while the efforts from other developers are valiant, at the end of the day, Boxer still has the right idea -- making the Finder the actual front-end.
I don't want to rain on the Dapplegrey developer's parade (afterall, I'm sure some people like the Dapplegrey launcher), but there's something a lot more sexy about letting users create their own game bundles complete with icon and documentation, launched from the Finder.
I really love this app, and have been using it for a while. The one thing I have to say I would like to see you package it in a dmg rather than a zip as its easyer to deal with on my windows boxx (witch is where I sometimes download the newest verison from), Other than that love the app, wish you made a Windows/Linux version of the app! :)
Nice Dosbox GUI. The interface is a bit messy but it really gets the job done. Dapplegrey also has the simple merit of being in active development. Most of the other GUIs don't see a lot of updates these days.
the previous version worked fine, but in this version when i try to launch a game I get an error:
"Dapplegrey have to quit because of an NilObjectExceptionErr (Object not found). Please tell the following line to the author: Subprogram: 'app.WriteConfChr'"
